”Léa MKL draws figures resembling clumsy Golems and explores the intimate through the prism of autofiction, where the boundaries between reality and fiction become blurred.” It was in these terms that the magazine Mauvaise Graine, the first publication to accurately capture her work, described Léa Mkl’s style. Remaining true to this description, the author’s work—now enriched by experience—spans comic strips, live drawing performances, workshops, concert organisation, and designs on mugs or tie-dye T-shirts. She tackles sometimes difficult subjects in a gentle, poetic way, where humour emerges in subtle touches, like speech bubbles popping up at unexpected moments. Her work oscillates between an apparent naivety and a sometimes disarming lucidity about the ways of the world, resonating with a certain generational disarray. Who hasn’t dreamed of wearing an "Envie de crever" T-shirt or tote bag on the way out of the doctor’s surgery, from a late-night party, or from a bike shop? Léa MKL has given us that chance. Born in 1997 and a graduate of the École Boulle in 2015, this self-proclaimed ‘Cool Kid’ decided to change career paths to work in the contemporary music scene as a production manager and artist manager. But as 2020 turned out to be a year where the role of concert canceller was in greater demand than that of a programmer, she turned her attention back to drawing and writing during lockdown – a sort of government-imposed residency, amidst a confusion over what was essential and what wasn’t. Taking a different approach to the virtual drinks, she regularly posts her comic strips on Instagram, where she has won over a community that has been growing ever since. In 2021, she produced two animated music videos for Teenage Bed and regularly collaborates with other artists. In November 2023, she self-published her first comic book, Chroniques, whilst in residence at Imprimerie Trace in the Lot region, with the help and support of Super Loto Éditions. The following year, the same publisher released the small leaflet 6 positions pour souffler (un peu) dans ce monde de merde, because it seemed necessary for everyone that yoga and personal development should finally become useful. Since 2024, alongside Nathan Leproust, Antoine Biotteau and Rémi Palis, she has created and performed the show OCTOBRE, a clumsy epic about an equally clumsy character, exploring themes such as the weight of family heritage and the search for self... In February 2024, she opened a venue for gatherings, concerts, exhibitions and workshops in Tours, called Maison Maison Maison, alongside the creation of her first graphic novel: Les aventures fictives, published by Super Loto Éditions in 2025. In 2026, she published the comic book Date Limite with the Deux Points association.
