Lettres à Montréal a Success!

Lettres à Montréal a Success!

(May 8th, 2020) 26 creators, 26 anecdotes, 26 comics, one city: it was the crazy project that MCAF had set itself by launching its Ulule campaign to finance Lettres à Montréal. An even bigger project knowing that the campaign was launched at the start of the global coronavirus crisis! As the campaign officially ended yesterday, it is with some pride that we announce that it has exceeded our objectives and has gathered more than 342 presales, which represents 114% of our original goal!

We would like to thank everyone who supported this book. More precisely, the 241 comic book fans that helped us. We see that as a good omen for “Presses du FBDM | MCAF Press” and its first publication.

MCAF Press

Through this crowdfunding, it is the beginning of a much bigger project: the Montreal Comic Arts Festival is launching its own publishing house, Presses du FBDM | MCAF Press. The festival continue to follow its mission to support creation in comic arts.

Lettres à Montréal therefore mark with a white stone the creation of the publishing house. This book, whose cover was designed by the talented Axelle Lenoir, will be on sale starting on the first day of the festival.

Success and MCAF go together!

Although this is the first official work of “Presses du FBDM | MCAF Press”, it is not the first time that the festival has launched, with success, a crowdfunding campaign. Indeed, we were able to rely on public support last year for the book “Rues de Montréal” published in partnership with La Revue PLANCHES. Not only do we love Montreal, but we can count on generous and involved individuals who help make Quebec comics grow. A big thanks to them!

About the 9th edition

MCAF will be held entirely online this year for 3 days, from May 22 to 24, 2020 on our website. Workshops, Q&A, panels and live drawing are just a few of the many activities planned! The festival is also proud to announce that we are officially launching the “MCAF Press,” its first book will be published for the festival.

The Montreal Comic Arts Festival thanks its partners

MCAF would like to highlight the collaboration of its partners who contribute to the success of this 9th edition.

Thanks to : Patrimoine Canada; Conseil des Arts du Canada; Conseil des arts de Montréal; SODEC, Division Festivals et événements culturels de Montréal; l’Arrondissement Le-Plateau-Mont-Royal; Caisse de la culture Desjardins; Consulat général of France in Québec; l’Institut Goethe and the Centre de la francophonie des Amériques.

Our media partners : Culture Cible; La Fabrique culturelle, LesLibraires.ca;  CISM 89.3, la revue PLANCHES; as well as our booktubers : Elise, from “A Book and a Cup”; Ariane, from “Miz Littérature” and Chantal, from “La Bibliothèque Jaune”.

The participation and commitment of the team, which is largely made up of volunteers, cannot be ignored, as they enthusiastically embarked on a huge project just eight weeks before the end.
