Author’s Graphic Novel

Teen, Adult

Damy Franco Clerc started out as a self-taught cartoonist, until 2004, when he took a more serious look at art history and cartoon techniques. With a degree in Tourism and Hospitality in his pocket, and freshly graduated from the École Nationale d'Enseignement Maritime (merchant navy), the young man decided to devote himself to the visual arts: cinema, and above all, comics. In addition to his personal research, he took part in a series of internships, training courses and workshops to perfect his skills. In 2007, he moved to the capital, Antananarivo, to begin his professional adventure, combining odd jobs as an actor, an extra in advertising campaigns, an illustrator and a decorator. One thing led to another, and he went on to become storyboarder, scriptwriter, assistant director and then director. Today, his main activity is TV and film production, and he continues to write for comics. Franco Clerc also devotes much of his time to passing on his experience, supporting young Malagasy creative talents. He co-founded, in 2022, EKAA École Agence Artistique, to train and support young actors, scriptwriters and directors. After a number of small self-published and associative works, in 2016 he published two volumes of Mystères de Tana with L'Harmattan BD, before signing a one-shot with Stéphane Pelayo in 2018 with Des Bulles dans l'Océan, Haza Lahy (winning best French-language album from the African continent at the 2019 Algiers International Comics Festival). He will be back in 2021 with the same publisher, telling the life of Father Pedro in Akamasoa, an album that has sold 15,000 copies to date.
