François Paquet is an emergency medicine specialist who has been working for over thirty years at the Chaudière-Appalaches Integrated Health and Social Services Centre, at the Hôtel-Dieu de Lévis university-affiliated hospital. It was there that he met Yves, and together they created their first comic strips, a release from the hectic pace of the A&E department and a means of escape from the heavy demands of their professions. François co-writes STAT with Yves, as well as writing the text and laying out the strips and panels. Although critical of the healthcare system in STAT, he is nonetheless a tireless advocate, striving to improve the health of Quebecers and involved in several initiatives aimed at enhancing the functionality of the healthcare system, the emergency response system and pre-hospital care, notably through computerisation. He also teaches at the Faculty of Medicine at Laval University as an associate clinical professor.
