Ana Luiza Marigo is a Brazilian-born multidisciplinary artist engaged in various fields throughout her life. Holding a degree in architecture and urban planning, her work focused on Brazilian intangible cultural heritage, with a particular interest in urban dynamics. Her first graphic novel, Apocolocyntosis (from the Greek apokolokyntosis, “transformation into a pumpkin”), offers a contemporary reinterpretation of a satire by Seneca, transposed into the Brazilian context. With her co-author, she explores issues related to the Bolsonaro government, aka the “Brazilian Trump.” Several political themes in Brazil are addressed, such as the environmental crisis, as well as the colonization and ethnocide of Indigenous peoples over more than 500 years. Currently, she studies art history at UdeM and creates new graphic works in French and English: Migratory Birds, Elba, and The Pacifier Tree.
