Montreal, April 29, 2021<\/strong> – No matter what the challenges, from a bit of adverse weather to a global pandemic, the Montreal Comic Arts Festival (MCAF) has succeeded year after year in welcoming thousands of participants. For ten years it has been one of the first large public events on the Montreal cultural calendar, and 2021 will be no exception!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our 10th Anniversary, 100% Virtual<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The organizers of MCAF worked until the last possible moment to create a hybrid event with some in-person elements, but given the ongoing (and seemingly never-ending) realities of the pandemic, for the second year in a row the Festival will be 100% virtual, live and direct online, where dozens of creators will be united to connect with thousands of audience members. Mark your calendars for May 6, when the full lineup of interviews, panels, workshops, and more will be announced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Denis Rodier\u2019s 10th Anniversary Poster Unveiled<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This year, the Festival called on superstar talent Denis Rodier to create a very special poster for our 10th anniversary! With its gracious lines and elegant colors, his illustration balances perfectly between classic old-school charm and modern energy\u2026
A perfect tone for celebrating the Festival\u2019s first decade, and looking forward to the next!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Denis Rodier has been a well-known figure in the international comics scene for many years. He debuted with work at the American publisher DC Comics in 1988 and was an inker for classic series such as Batman<\/em> and Green Lantern<\/em>, and the famed \u201cDeath of Superman\u201d storyline. Rodier also worked for Marvel, on the series Captain America<\/em> and the comics adaptation of Hook<\/em>. More recently, his graphic novel The Bomb<\/em>, created with writers Alcante and Boll\u00e9e and published by Gl\u00e9nat, was released to mark the 75th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima. The Bomb<\/em> was the winner of multiple prizes, including the Cases d\u2019histoire 2020 and the ACBD Qu\u00e9bec Comics Award 2020. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

May, Comic Arts Month<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

To help celebrate our 10th anniversary in style, MCAF has called upon its many partners, both new and old, to offer even more events throughout the month of May. As is always the case, the Montreal Libraries Network <\/strong>will be offering a range of activities for all ages<\/a> throughout the month. Without further ado, here are the partners and activities not to be missed:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Congr\u00e8s Bor\u00e9al<\/a> – May 1st and 2nd<\/strong><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The Congr\u00e8s Bor\u00e9al has celebrate the fantasy and science fiction for over 40 years now! This year, the venerable event will be hosting a range of round table discussions, notably including appearances by creators Axelle Lenoir<\/strong> (Vir\u00e9e en horreur qu\u00e9b\u00e9coise<\/em>) and Fran\u00e7ois Vigneault<\/strong> (Explorer les corps, pour penser le futur<\/em>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

FBDCAN \/ CANCAF<\/a> – May 6, 13, 20 and 27<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Here\u2019s an historic event for Canadian comics that connects the entire country from coast-to-coast! For the first time ever, four major comic art festivals (MCAF, the Toronto Comic Arts Festival, Vancouver Arts Festival and Festival Qu\u00e9bec BD) will be facing off in a live drawing tournament! Comic Night in Canada \/ La soir\u00e9e de la BD<\/strong> will feature the talents of creators from each city, and Montr\u00e9al will be well-represented with Yanick Paquette <\/strong>& Laurence Dea Dionne<\/strong>! Come cheer along as our dynamic duo faces off against our infamous rivals of Qu\u00e9bec, Toronto, and Vancouver! Go Habs, go!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Salon du livre de Montr\u00e9al<\/a> – May 10, 17 and 24 <\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

With Lis-moi MTL au FBDM<\/em><\/strong>, the Salon du livre de Montr\u00e9al offers relaxed meetings live on Instagram where we chat books and read with the finalists Qu\u00e9bec of the 22nd edition of the B\u00e9d\u00e9lys Awards: Patrick Sen\u00e9cal<\/strong> & Jeik Dion<\/strong> (Aliss, Front Froid & Alire), Catherine Lepage<\/strong> (Bou\u00e9e, La Past\u00e8que), Thom <\/strong>(Casa Rod\u00e9o, Pow Pow), Mirion Malle<\/strong> (C\u2019est comme \u00e7a que je disparais, Pow Pow) & M\u00e9lanie Leclerc<\/strong> (Temps libre, M\u00e9canique G\u00e9n\u00e9rale). All the discussions will be hosted by Olivier Courtois of Liseur public<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

BAnQ<\/a> – May 23 and 26<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

This year MCAF is teaming up for two fantastic events with Biblioth\u00e8que et Archives nationales du Qu\u00e9bec (BAnQ). First up, \u201cDe Vive Voix,\u201d will be a conversation between the creators M\u00e9lodie Vachon Boucher<\/strong> and Aur\u00e9lie William Levaux<\/strong>, where they will discuss their respective work in what is sure to be a fascinating encounter presented by BAnQ and the General Delegation of Wallonia\/Brussels in Qu\u00e9bec.
Next up will be, BAnQ is Wiki<\/strong>, a hands-on learning session dedicated to all things Wikipedia, initiating the public in how to contribute to and enrich the world\u2019s largest encyclopedia. The session will be focused on the resources available in French and how to improve the site\u2019s coverage of Qu\u00e9bec comics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About MCAF<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This year MCAF is celebrating its 10th anniversary! To mark the occasion, a full lineup of programming will be presented live online on May 28, 29 and 30th, celebrating the work of cartoonists from here and abroad. This year is also marked by the appearance of the Festival\u2019s second anthology, X<\/em>, published by Presses du FBDM | MCAF Press.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
