I love music and go to concerts whenever I get the chance. I also enjoy cooking and challenging myself with new recipes. Finally, I played water polo at a high level for a long time, and I still play for fun.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n\n- What do you enjoy most about your work?<\/strong>
It\u2019s thanks to comic creators that I rediscovered comics and now work at MCAF. I take pride in organizing the most wonderful celebration for them and in showcasing Qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois comics. My position involves a wide variety of tasks, and I find great satisfaction in solving the many challenges that come with organizing the MCAF.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n\n- A discovery that left a lasting impression on you in the past year?<\/strong>
I met Jimmy Suzan at Comiccon a few years ago. It was with curiosity that I began reading his first comic, and what a treat it was. Migrasyon<\/em> draws us into his story with the arrival of his Haitian family in Quebec in the 1970s. By piecing together his story through conversations with his mother, family anecdotes and his own personal experiences, Jimmy sensitively presents a powerful tale of identity marked by racism. I love the way he incorporates his comic book influences and his colourful, vibrant visual style. It\u2019s a highly relevant story to read at a time when immigration is still all too often singled out in a negative light.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

Reading books without pictures\u2014yes, I know, sacrilege! I’m a huge fan of all kinds of science fiction, whether it’s in comics, novels, or on screen. And when I feel like socializing, I love playing board games with my friends.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n\n- What do you enjoy most about your work?<\/strong>
I love discovering new things. Even though I sadly don\u2019t have time to read everything, my work allows me to explore everything comics have to offer, and it\u2019s truly magical!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n\n- A discovery that left a lasting impression on you in the past year?<\/strong>
Patrick Horvath’s comic book Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees<\/em> took me by surprise. With its pastel colours and a drawing style more reminiscent of a children’s book than a comic book, the work contrasts sharply with its bloody subject matter. I’m not usually a fan of horror comics, but this one was intriguing enough to get me hooked. For a first long-form work, it’s very successful, and the contrast between the visuals and the story makes it a real gem!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

My team, and meeting the artists and exhibitors! It\u2019s such a joy to welcome people from all over, and the connections made at the festival are especially inspiring. It\u2019s my little ideal world!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n\n- A discovery that left a lasting impression on you in the past year?<\/strong>
I had never read Florence Dupr\u00e9 la Tour before! It was only this year that I discovered the two volumes of Pucelle<\/em>, which have gone straight into my list of favourites. I love how she tackles themes that are very close to my heart (feminism and class struggle, to name but a few) in joyfully chaotic stories, using deceptively naive drawings. It’s pure delight!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\nProgramming Committee<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
This year sees the creation of a Programming Committee whose mandate to develop and prepare a unique, diverse and interesting programing slate for the Festival that reflects the broader cultural moment. All the people chosen have been involved with the Festival for several years and are important individuals in the Montreal comics community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
