Jean-Louis Tripp published his first drawings at the age of 19 in Métal Hurlant. His first album, Le Bœuf n'était pas mode (in collaboration with Marc Barcelo), appeared in 1978, followed by the Futuropolis period, from 1982 to 1985. At the same time, he began publishing Les aventures de Jacques Gallard (4 volumes) Parfum d'Afrique, Soviet Zigzag (Angoulême critic's prize 1987) Zoulou Blues (Angoulême public prize 1988) and Afrikaans Baazart (Prix Résistance Paris 1989) at Milan. In 1989, he interrupted his production of comics to devote himself to various artistic activities: painting, sculpture, unique pieces of furniture, as well as mosaic frescoes and reports drawn (He participated twice in the expedition of the Raft of the Tops and drew a travelogue, La Croisière Verte published in 1991 by Glénat and a travel diary published in Air France Magazine in 1999. He also draws children's books (Milan), and produces numerous novel covers, illustrations (Flammarion, Presse Pocket, Milan, Elle, Autrement), and storyboards for the cinema. In 2003, he left for Quebec to teach comics at the University of Quebec in Outaouais and drew Paroles d'Anges (Glénat), then co-wrote with Régis Loisel Le Magasin Général series (Casterman) (more than a million copies sold, project for a TV series adaptation). In 2017, volume 1 of Extases, an autobiographical story on the theme of sexuality is published by Casterman. It was adapted for the theater and performed by Franck Jazédé in Avignon in 2019 and Brussels and Paris in 2020 Volume 2 of Extases was published in March 2020 (one week before the Coronavirus crisis). In 2021, at the request of the latter, he adapts 10 crime stories told on Europe1 by Christophe Hondelatte. Drawn by Cyril Doisneau, these stories are published by Éditions du Lombard under the title Tu Ne Tueras Point. In May 2022, a new autobiographical story was published by Casterman: Le Petit Frère. Jean-Louis Tripp divides his life between Montreal in Quebec and the Corbières in the south of France.
